Helium Smart Air, a startup dedicated to developing smart air conditioning units, has successfully raised $2 million in seed funding, primarily led by India Quotient. This funding will be utilized to expedite product development, broaden distribution channels, and invest in research and development.
Founded in 2025 by IIT Kanpur alumni Ashish Sharma and Aman Munka, Helium aims to create affordable and space-efficient air conditioners suitable for both residential and commercial use. The startup has partnered with IIT Kanpur to innovate cooling technology that operates at lower costs.
The upcoming air conditioning units are designed to optimize energy consumption and feature modern app-based controls. Key functionalities include gas leakage detection and device health analytics, which help prevent unnecessary maintenance and refills.
Sharma highlighted the need for more appropriately sized cooling solutions, stating, "Existing AC options are oversized, inefficient, and not designed for how people actually live. At Helium, we are creating right-sized cooling solutions for modern, functional spaces."
Helium's first product targets areas up to 100 square feet and has a capacity of 2,700 watts, compatible with a 1 kW solar panel. The unit is priced around ₹17,000, with deliveries expected to start later this month.
Post-launch, these air conditioners will be available at select showrooms in Delhi NCR and Rajasthan, with plans for further expansion across India. The manufacturing of these units will take place at multiple locations within the country.
The Indian home appliances market, traditionally dominated by established players, is now experiencing a surge in new direct-to-consumer brands focusing on functionality, IoT integration, and design to meet the needs of urban dwellers. Companies like Atomberg have successfully transitioned from energy-efficient ceiling fans to a broader range of kitchen appliances.
Helium Smart Air's innovative approach positions it well within this evolving market, as it aims to redefine air conditioning solutions for modern living.
