Vibhor Jain has been appointed as the new MD and CEO of ONDC, effective April 7, after serving as acting CEO. He aims to deepen the value ONDC creates for various stakeholders, including farmers, artisans, and small businesses. The government-backed open ecommerce network also reported a significant revenue surge and welcomed new key leadership appointments.Jain has been ONDC’s acting CEO since former chief executive Thampy Koshy quit in April last year.
“Going forward, we are concentrating on what open, interoperable infrastructure can uniquely enable—things that no single platform has the incentive or the architecture to do,” Jain told ET when asked what his plans for the network are.
“My priority is to deepen the value ONDC creates for the people it exists to serve: kisaans, karigars, kiranas, gig workers, first-time investors, and daily commuters across India,” he said.
Jain was previously COO at the company.
He said ONDC has “a strong and exciting leadership team in place” with Rohit Lohia joining as chief business officer and Manoj Thakur as chief technology officer.
ONDC reported a 127% surge in total revenue at Rs 33.41 crore for 2024-25. The network had posted Rs 14.7 crore revenue in the previous fiscal year. Despite the sharp topline growth, net loss narrowed to Rs 147.13 crore in FY25 from Rs 195.6 crore in the previous year.
Between January 2023 and August 2025, ONDC facilitated 288 million orders, and now has 167,500 retail sellers.
In August last year, ONDC stopped making public the number of transactions it facilitates in a month. As per its last updated data, it facilitated 83,864,322 retail orders from April 2024 to August last year.
The implementation of the ONDC network infrastructure development and services fees has been pending for 16 months now from December 2024 after being postponed multiple times. It was postponed until further notice on October 8 last year to allow network participants adequate time to prepare for implementation.
ONDC is now introducing the fee for the financial services domain for mutual fund transactions and credit transactions through its network.
