The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has appointed Vibhor Jain as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective April 7. Jain has been serving as the acting CEO and MD for the past year and has been with ONDC for nearly five years.
Before joining ONDC, Jain co-founded Atlanta Healthcare, where he served as CEO until 2017. He transitioned to ONDC as a strategic advisor in 2021.
Future Focus: Jain emphasized the network's commitment to developing open, interoperable infrastructure that can facilitate unique opportunities not typically available on single platforms. He aims to create deeper value for various groups, including farmers, artisans, small retailers, gig workers, first-time investors, and daily commuters.
Since the departure of founding member T Koshy in April last year, ONDC has been in search of a new MD and CEO. During this transition, an eight-member executive team was established to manage operations, which included appointing Rohit Lohia as Chief Business Officer and Manoj Thakur as Chief Technology Officer.
Founded in 2021, ONDC is a section-8 company designed to democratize digital commerce, allowing smaller businesses to connect with consumers via digital platforms. The network counts the Quality Council of India and Protean eGov Technologies among its founding members, with investments from major financial institutions like Kotak Mahindra and ICICI.
ONDC is currently operational in 616 cities, featuring over 764,000 sellers and service providers. It reported fulfilling more than 16 million orders in May 2025, with 26 active domains in various sectors, including food, fashion, and home goods.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of MSME, Ateesh Singh, expressed confidence in Jain's leadership, predicting a significant increase in transaction volume from 20 million to 200 million per month.
