Infosys’ employee base fell by 8,440 in Q4FY26, even as the IT services major reported higher quarterly profits.

The company’s total headcount stood at 3,28,594 at the end of March 2026, down from 3,37,034 in the December quarter, according to its earnings release.

On a year-on-year basis, however, Infosys added 5,016 employees from 3,23,578 in the March quarter of FY25.

“There's always some quarterly seasonality,” Infosys chief financial officer Jayesh Sanghrajka said. “But if you keep that aside for a moment, headcount is a function of the number of people you have, the utilisation that you have, and the (demand) volumes that you see this quarter. It's the demand-supply equation.”

The company hired the 20,000 freshers it had planned to in FY26. Sanghrajka said the same number will be maintained for FY27.

Voluntary attrition on a last-twelve-month basis rose to 12.6% in Q4 from 12.3% in the preceding quarter. It remained lower than 14.1% reported in the year-ago period.

Infosys’ peers have also hired cautiously, with Wipro adding 135 employees sequentially in Q4 FY26, while Tech Mahindra’s headcount declined by nearly 2,000 during the quarter. However, TCS added 2,356 employees, taking its total headcount to 584,519.

Net profit for the latest quarter rose 20.8% to Rs 8,051 crore from the year earlier and 27.7% sequentially for the IT services company. Revenues rose 13.4% on-year to Rs 46,402 crore, and up 2% from the December quarter.
