Google has unveiled a series of new features for Google TV, focusing on enhancing user experience with AI-powered tools and integrating short-form video content.
New Gemini Features: The update highlights expanded capabilities from Gemini, including a new “Create” button in the Gemini tab. This feature allows users to engage with generative tools like Nano Banana and Veo, initially available on Gemini-enabled TCL TVs in the U.S., with plans for wider compatibility in the future.
Nano Banana: This image-generation tool enables users to modify photos using voice commands. Users can easily change outfits, backgrounds, or create entirely new scenes, making it a fun option for family interactions.
Veo: This tool allows users to animate still images or create clips by describing scenarios. For example, users can prompt the tool to animate a family member doing a moonwalk in space.
Enhanced Google Photos: Google Photos on Google TV will see improvements with Gemini-powered search capabilities, allowing users to quickly find specific memories. The new “Remix” feature lets users apply artistic styles to their photos, while “Dynamic Slideshows” will offer animated layouts for TV-ready presentations.
Short-Form Video Integration: In response to the growing popularity of short videos, a new section titled “Short videos for you” will soon appear on the Google TV home screen, featuring content from YouTube Shorts. This addition follows YouTube's recent option to hide Shorts on mobile, indicating varied user preferences.
Future Prospects: Google hints that the integration of short-form videos may extend beyond YouTube Shorts, potentially including other platforms like Instagram, which has already made strides in this area by launching its TV app on Google TV devices.
