Karnataka is moving forward with plans to create data parks with a total capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW) in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Mangaluru. This initiative aims to promote industrial growth through the development of green digital infrastructure.
The announcement follows a high-level meeting of state ministers, including energy minister KJ George and industries minister MB Patil, which took place in Bengaluru.
Details of the Data Parks
The project includes:
- Bengaluru: A 500 MW data park will be established near Hoskote, utilizing solar power generated at Pavagada. The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board has committed to supplying 60 million litres per day of secondary treated water, with companies responsible for further tertiary treatment.
- Mangaluru: A data park will occupy approximately 350 acres in the Baikampady Industrial Area, managed by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB).
- Mysuru: The government is in the process of identifying suitable land for a similar facility.
Support for Investors
The state government is dedicated to ensuring reliable power and water supply for investors looking to establish data centers within these parks. Preparations are underway to engage potential investors in the upcoming weeks.
Implementation Strategy
A committee of ministers, including deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, will be formed to expedite the project's implementation. This committee will work alongside senior officials to ensure the timely establishment of the data parks.
Why It Matters
This initiative is significant as it aligns with Karnataka's goals to enhance its industrial landscape while promoting sustainable practices. By leveraging renewable energy and efficient water management, the state aims to attract investment and foster technological advancements.
