Bengaluru-based BigEndian Semiconductors has successfully raised $6 million in funding, primarily aimed at commercializing its first Vision AI system-on-chip (SoC). This funding round was led by IAN Alpha Fund, with contributions from Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India, IvyCap Ventures, and various angel investors.
The startup is focused on developing semiconductor solutions that cater to Vision AI systems, particularly in applications involving CCTV, surveillance, and other edge AI technologies. Sunil Kumar, cofounder and CEO, emphasized the versatility of their chips, stating they can be utilized in devices ranging from cameras and doorbells to drones and industrial equipment.
Market Potential
BigEndian aims to capitalize on the increasing demand for indigenous semiconductor solutions in India, which Kumar estimates to be a $5 billion market. The company plans to expand its focus beyond CCTV and surveillance to include sectors such as logistics, defense, access control, and industrial automation.
Funding Utilization
The newly acquired capital will be directed towards enhancing product engineering, forming partnerships with foundries, and supporting the commercial rollout of their first chip. Following a successful tape-out milestone, the company is now transitioning into production and commercialization.

In the coming quarters, BigEndian will concentrate on firmware validation, field trials, certifications, and customer testing to ensure a smooth deployment of their products. Conversations with various Indian and global OEMs are already underway, although specific partnerships have not yet been disclosed.
