Discord has launched its Nitro Rewards program, providing subscribers with additional benefits from various gaming and lifestyle brands at no extra cost. This initiative aims to enhance the value of Discord Nitro subscriptions, which already offer features like enhanced profile customization, HD streaming, and larger file uploads.
Enhancing Subscriber Value: Nitro Rewards is available to both Nitro Basic ($2.99/month) and Nitro ($9.99/month) subscribers. The program is designed to improve subscriber retention by increasing the perceived value of the service.
At its launch, Nitro Rewards includes access to the base tier of Xbox Game Pass, allowing users to play over 50 games on PC and Xbox, such as Fallout 4 and Stardew Valley. Additionally, subscribers will benefit from 10 hours of cloud gaming, enabling them to stream games from their console or PC to other devices.
Exclusive Discounts: Subscribers can also enjoy discounts ranging from 15% to 30% on select gaming hardware from brands like Logitech G, SteelSeries, and KontrolFreak. Discord plans to expand its partnerships with more companies to offer additional deals in the future.
Stanislav Vishnevskiy, Discord's co-founder and CTO, stated that Nitro is a significant revenue driver for the platform, which has seen consistent growth. The introduction of Nitro Rewards is a way to express gratitude to subscribers while also enhancing retention rates.
Discord's Evolving Role: Originally created as a chat platform for gamers, Discord has transformed into a community hub for diverse users, including those involved in crypto projects and social activism. The platform now boasts over 90 million daily active users.
However, with this growth, Discord faces challenges related to online safety, particularly concerning minors. The company is currently implementing age-verification measures in response to increasing scrutiny and legal challenges regarding children's online safety.
