TikTok has unveiled TikTok GO, a new feature that enables users to discover and book hotels, attractions, and experiences directly within the app. This service is available in the U.S. for users aged 18 and older.
Through TikTok GO, users can explore lodging and activities via videos, searches, and location pages. When they find something appealing, they can check availability and complete their bookings seamlessly. This initiative is supported by partnerships with major travel platforms like Booking.com, Expedia, Viator, GetYourGuide, Tiqets, and Trip.com.
Creators can also link their content to booking options, allowing them to earn commissions and participate in creator campaigns. This integration aims to enhance user retention by keeping users engaged within the app from discovery to purchase.
The launch of TikTok GO reflects TikTok's strategy to transform its platform into a comprehensive transaction layer, similar to its earlier introduction of TikTok Shop, which facilitated e-commerce directly within the app.
By positioning itself as a platform for travel bookings, TikTok is entering a competitive space traditionally dominated by Google. As users increasingly use TikTok for search, this move could further challenge Google's core services, including Search and Maps.
Interestingly, some of TikTok GO's launch partners, such as Booking.com and Expedia, are also competitors in the travel discovery market. This dynamic will be crucial to observe as TikTok seeks to leverage their inventory while establishing its own customer relationships.
Adam Presser, CEO of TikTok USDS Joint Venture, stated, "Every day on TikTok, millions of people discover where to eat, where to stay, and what to do next. TikTok GO connects that moment of inspiration directly to the businesses behind it, benefiting creators, local businesses, and communities."
This isn't TikTok's first foray into in-app bookings; the platform previously partnered with Ticketmaster in 2022 to allow users to discover and purchase event tickets.
