Uber is set to significantly enhance its presence in India by establishing two new tech centers in Bengaluru and Hyderabad by the end of 2027. This announcement was made by CEO Dara Khosrowshahi during a town hall meeting at the company's Bengaluru office.
The Bengaluru center will span 1.1 million square feet, accommodating up to 5,000 employees, while the Hyderabad facility will cover 901,115 square feet for 4,600 staff members. This expansion comes shortly after Uber's partnership with the Adani Group to create its first data center in India.
Focus on Two-Wheeler Market
Khosrowshahi also emphasized Uber's commitment to the two-wheeler segment, which has emerged as a crucial growth area for the company. He noted that two years ago, Uber was not actively engaged in this market, but it has since become a key focus.
Despite facing regulatory challenges, the two-wheeler segment has shown rapid growth, and Uber has launched a business-to-business logistics network on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform to strengthen its ties within this ecosystem.
Impact of Fuel Prices
Addressing concerns regarding rising fuel prices due to geopolitical tensions, Khosrowshahi assured that India remains largely unaffected by these fluctuations. He indicated that while margins in the US might be impacted, the Indian market is stable for now.
Earlier this year, Uber invested approximately $330 million into its Indian operations as competition in the ride-hailing sector intensified, particularly with rival companies like Rapido expanding their services.
