Karnataka has officially launched a 16-member Quantum Task Force aimed at positioning the state as a national leader in quantum technology and innovation. This initiative follows a government order from the Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science and Technology.
The task force is tasked with implementing the 'Karnataka Quantum Roadmap,' which was recently introduced at the Quantum India Bengaluru Summit. The roadmap outlines strategies to foster research and development in quantum technologies.
Leadership and Structure
Prof. Arindam Ghosh, who holds the JRD Tata Chair and is a J C Bose National Fellow at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), has been appointed as the Chairman of the task force. The committee also includes the Director of the Department of Science and Technology and the Managing Director of KSTEPS as Member Secretary.
The group consists of experts from various fields, including academia, research institutions, the technology sector, and government officials.
Goals of the Task Force
This high-level task force will focus on:
- Formulating policies to support quantum technology research and innovation.
- Guiding startup initiatives and promoting industrial adoption of quantum technologies.
- Overseeing the development of critical infrastructure, including the planned Quantum City in Hesserghatta.

The Quantum City is envisioned as a major hub for India's quantum ecosystem, aiming to attract investment and talent in quantum research and applications.
