Mirza International Expands Portfolio with Solethreads Acquisition

Mirza International, a prominent footwear manufacturer, has acquired D2C brand Solethreads, as announced by Solethreads' founder and CEO, Sumant Kakaria, on LinkedIn. The specifics of the deal, including its financial terms, were not disclosed.

Kakaria shared that the goal behind launching Solethreads was to create stylish and accessible everyday footwear through a technology-driven approach. The brand successfully expanded its online presence and later ventured into physical retail.

Regulatory documents indicate that Mirza took on the role of director and promoter at Solethreads' parent company, Summersalt Lifestyle, in December 2025.

With this acquisition, Solethreads will operate under Mirza International, known for its established brands like RedTape and Oaktrak. Following the acquisition, Kakaria will resign from his position as CEO.

Founded in 2020 by Kakaria along with Gaurav Chopra, Aprajit Kathuria, and Vikram Iyer, Solethreads initially focused on casual footwear for younger audiences, starting with flip-flops, which remain its top-selling item, before expanding into sneakers.

Solethreads has successfully attracted funding over the years, raising ₹13 crore in 2020 and ₹14 crore in 2021 from DSG Consumer Partners and Saama Capital. In 2023, it raised $3.7 million in a Series A round led by Fireside Ventures, with contributions from angel investors and existing supporters.

This acquisition aligns with a trend where traditional companies are investing in digital-first brands to engage with younger consumers. Similar recent acquisitions include Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail's purchase of Bewakoof and Styched's acquisition of sneaker brand Flatheads.

As part of Mirza International, Solethreads will benefit from enhanced access to manufacturing and distribution networks.
