Uber has unveiled a significant expansion of its app, allowing users in the United States to book hotels directly. This new feature was announced during the company's annual Go-Get event in New York City and marks a shift from its original focus on ride-hailing.
Through a partnership with Expedia Group, Uber users can access over 700,000 hotels worldwide. Additionally, vacation rentals from Vrbo will be integrated into the app later this year.
To promote its Uber One subscription service, Uber is offering members a 20% discount on a selection of 10,000 hotels booked through the app, along with 10% back in Uber Credits on all bookings.
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized the company's evolution: "Uber is now an app for everything, where you can go, you can get and now you can travel." This reflects a broader vision for the app beyond just rides and food delivery.
Alongside hotel bookings, Uber introduced several new features, including an AI-powered voice booking system and an enhanced search tool. The company’s chief technology officer, Praveen Neppalli Naga, noted that these innovations were developed rapidly thanks to new AI tools, significantly reducing the time from concept to launch.
During the event, Uber also launched a travel mode that provides users with guides to local attractions and dining options. This feature extends to Uber Eats, introducing a “room service” hub to help users order commonly forgotten items.
Another new feature, "Eats for the Way," allows customers with reserved Uber Black rides to order snacks or drinks that will be ready upon arrival.
