Jensen Huang, co-founder of Nvidia, made headlines by joining US President Donald Trump on his recent visit to China. His late addition to the delegation underscores the growing importance of artificial intelligence and technology in international discussions.
Initially not listed among the attendees, Huang's presence was confirmed by Trump via social media, where he expressed honor in having Huang and other business leaders on board. Trump stated his intention to encourage Chinese President Xi Jinping to open up the market for American innovation.
Last-Minute Inclusion
The inclusion of Huang was somewhat unexpected. White House spokesman Steven Cheung explained that Huang's schedule changed, allowing him to join the trip after a call from Trump. Huang traveled to Anchorage to meet Air Force One during its layover.
Nvidia issued a statement affirming that Huang's participation was at the invitation of Trump, aimed at supporting US interests and objectives.
Key Concerns for Nvidia
It remains uncertain whether Trump will address specific issues related to Nvidia during his discussions with Xi. A significant point of interest is the potential approval for Chinese customers to purchase Nvidia's advanced H200 AI chips, which are crucial for various AI applications.
Other Business Leaders in Attendance
Huang is part of a notable group of US business leaders accompanying Trump, including Tim Cook of Apple and Elon Musk of Tesla. This trip marks Trump's first overseas visit since the escalation of conflicts in the Middle East, with discussions expected to cover tariffs, military concerns, and Taiwan.
Other prominent figures joining the delegation include Kelly Ortberg from Boeing and David Solomon from Goldman Sachs.
