Guide to Publishing AMI Products in AWS European Sovereign Cloud Marketplace

The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is designed to assist public sector organizations and highly regulated industries in meeting strict sovereignty requirements. This platform operates as an independent partition of Amazon Web Services (AWS), featuring isolated regions and services with distinct endpoints and security boundaries.

This article is the second installment in a three-part series focused on listing software products in the AWS Marketplace within the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. The series includes:

  • Part 1: Registering as a seller — account setup and seller registration.
  • Part 2: Publishing Amazon Machine Image (AMI) products — the current focus.
  • Part 3: Publishing software as a service (SaaS) products — coming soon.

Currently, the AWS Marketplace in this cloud supports two listing types: AMI and SaaS products. To successfully publish an AMI product, follow these essential steps:

  1. Ensure registration for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud catalog is complete. If the option for AWS Marketplace – European Sovereign Cloud is unavailable, revisit the registration process outlined in Part 1.
  2. If creating a new AMI from scratch, follow the instructions in the Lab: Prepare and scan your AMI section.
  3. If the AMI is already available, proceed with the next steps.

After completing the necessary setup, the automated validation process typically takes 15–20 minutes to review the product, which will then display a status of 'limited.' This status can be monitored under Your AMI Product.

Once the product reaches limited status, it should be tested by subscribing and launching it to ensure proper functionality within the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. If issues arise, refer to the section on Modifying your AMI product to work in the European Sovereign Cloud.

Upon successful testing, restrict all versions created during the testing phase before making the working version public. This process ensures that only the functional version is available to customers.

For modifications, two options are available:

  • Make changes directly in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud instance and transfer the updated AMI back to the commercial partition.
  • Modify the product in the commercial partition, then create a new AMI with the changes.

After completing the listing process, the AMI product will be published in the AWS Marketplace for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. Further details about the AWS European Sovereign Cloud can be found in the documentation.

Oscar Carrasquero and Pamela Pineda Freire, both specialists in solutions architecture, emphasize the importance of technology in addressing customer needs and enhancing data workflows.
